Attendees included Chen Wenkai, Deputy Director of the CAS Bureau of Science and Technology for Development; Fu Guangyi, Director of the High-Tech Department; Tian Yongsheng, Director of the Intellectual Property Department; and an expert panel comprising thirteen members from technical fields, finance, industry sectors, and representatives of the Hongguang Initiative joint conference.

On September 26, the Phase I Acceptance Review and Continuation Proposal Demonstration Meeting for the CAS Hongguang Initiative Project 'Industrialization of Circulating Fluidized Bed Coal Gasification Technology,' undertaken by the Institute, was convened in Jinchang, Gansu Province.

Representing the Institute were Huang Congli (Party Secretary), LV Qinggang (Deputy Director), Bai Lu (Director of the Science and Technology Department), Wang Wei (Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Department), core project members, and over twenty representatives from partner enterprises. The meeting was chaired by Director Fu Guangyi.

First, Bai Lu, representing the Institute, welcomed the attending leaders and experts. She then outlined the Institute's founding vision in developing Circulating Fluidized Bed Coal Gasification Technology and driving its vigorous industrialization. Additionally, she reviewed the project's journey—from conceptualization and initiation to its first milestone validation and the current phase review.

Next, Project Leader LV Qinggang reported to the attending leaders and experts on the Phase I execution status and the continuation project implementation plan. The expert panel evaluated the achievement of phase objectives, the demonstrable impact and visibility of outcomes, and fund utilization efficiency. They also reviewed the feasibility of the continuation project plan. Experts unanimously affirmed the accomplishments of Phase I while providing actionable recommendations for the next phase of R&D and industrial scaling.

LV Qinggang acknowledged the experts' affirmation with gratitude, affirming the project team would rigorously incorporate their recommendations to refine R&D and industrial scaling efforts.

Huang Congli (Institute Party Secretary) expressed appreciation for the CAS Hongguang Initiative's pivotal support in advancing coal gasification technology. He emphasized that Circulating Fluidized Bed Coal Gasification Technology represents a transformative approach to coal's clean utilization, pledging sustained institutional backing for its technological evolution and market deployment.

In his concluding remarks, Deputy Director General Chen Wenkai elevated expectations for the project team's execution. He directed both the Institute and its spin-off industrial entity to press forward with accelerated technology industrialization.

Prior to the meeting, attendees conducted a field inspection of the operational Lanshi Jinhua 1,000-ton pressurized circulating fluidized bed (CFB) coal gasification demonstration project. As a flagship demonstration initiative under the CAS Hongguang Initiative, this facility was invested and constructed by Jinchang Lanshi Gasification Technology Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of Lanshi Group) to supply feedstock gas for Jinhua Group's 200,000-ton/year synthetic ammonia production process.

The project employs the Institute's proprietary pressurized CFB pulverized coal gasification technology, enabling efficient utilization of local high-ash, low-rank coal resources to produce high-quality, cost-effective syngas for ammonia synthesis.

The CAS Hongguang Initiative targets national strategic priorities and key economic fronts, focusing on breakthrough technologies with significant transformative potential. Through integrated engineering development and market deployment,  it delivers major demonstration projects with profound socioeconomic impact. Supported by this initiative, Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) Coal Gasification Technology has achieved broad market influence—deployed across 24 domestic projects and exported to Belt and Road Initiative partner nations. The industrial platform Hefei CAS Coal Gasification Technology Co., Ltd. now thrives with over 100 full-time employees. It holds critical credentials including:

  • Class B Certification for chemical/petrochemical/pharmaceutical engineering design

  • Grade 3 Qualification for electromechanical engineering construction

  • Production Safety License

This positions the company as a full-scope EPC contractor providing end-to-end coal gasification solutions.
