At the invitation of the China Lime Association, ZHGAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences Hefei Gasification Technology Co., Ltd.) attended the 2019 China Lime Industry Technology Exchange and Cooperation Conference on October 25–26, 2019.
Industry Challenges in 2019
Facing intensified environmental regulations and transformation and upgrading pressures, lime enterprises grappled with severe operational hurdles. Expanded enforcement of ultra-low emission standards exposed the limitations of traditional coal-fired lime production processes, particularly those with high oxygen content, which fail to meet emission requirements. Hybrid coal-fired lime kilns further struggled with tar emissions (a potent carcinogen) alongside ultra-low emissions compliance. Many plants faced shutdowns for retrofits, urgently seeking alternatives to coal-based methods. While natural gas offers a cleaner option, its high cost, supply shortages (prioritized for civilian use), and significant thermal NOx emissions from gas-fired kilns rendered it economically unviable for most Chinese lime producers.
ZHGAS’s Solution: CGAS Technology
ZHGAS’s proprietary CGAS (Circulating Fluidized Bed Gasification) technology addresses these challenges with:
Broad coal adaptability (low-rank, high-ash/sulfur/moisture coal);
Ultra-low emissions (waste gas, water, residue);
High reliability and flexible load adjustment;
Energy efficiency and operational cost savings (syngas costs ~50% lower than natural gas).
This technology enables lime producers to slash production costs, enhance product quality, and comply with the strictest environmental standards.
Outcome & Collaboration
After two days of technical exchanges, multiple lime manufacturers endorsed CGAS technology. During the signing ceremony, ZHGAS secured strategic cooperation agreements with leading lime industry players.
